San Mateo-San Francisco Counties

Agriculture

UC Cooperative Extension assists the agricultural community (growers, industry, agencies, and the public) in San Mateo and San Francisco Counties with educational and research needs related to local crop production, pest management, postharvest handling, water quality and watershed protection, and environmental protection. Primary expertise is in the areas of floriculture, nursery, and vegetable production.

We extend information through educational programs (seminars, workshops), written publications, individual consultations, and field meetings. We have links to UC staff (faculty, specialists, and advisors) throughout the state, and to UC publications and web sites.

We work with agriculture-focused organizations to enhance local agriculture, including:

  • Farm Bureau
  • Agricultural Commissioners offices
  • California Ornamental Research Federation (CORF)
  • California Cut Flower Commission
  • Resource Conservation District
  • USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)
  • San Mateo County Weed Management Area (WMA)
  • California Interior Plantscape Association (CIPA)
  • Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers
  • San Francisco Flower Mart
  • San Francisco League for Urban Gardeners (SLUG)
  • Open space districts

We promote horticulture and agriculture to students in the county, by working with educational organizations such as the College of San Mateo, City College of San Francisco, Half Moon Bay High School, and many other schools and school districts in the counties.
