Purpose: The Master Gardener Coordinator is responsible for providing overall management of the Master Gardener Program in San Mateo and San Francisco Counties. Key responsibilities include keeping abreast of current research in all relevant areas, recruitment and training of Master Gardener volunteers, and coordination of volunteer activities.
Major Responsibilities:
• Ensure compliance with UC Master Gardener Administrative Handbook and Program Guidelines
• Guide MG organization officers regarding financial, program and procedural matters
• Provide leadership and oversight of all MG committees, data and records of continuing education and service in the Volunteer Management web site
• Oversee MG efforts including recruitment and training, projects, publicity and speaker’s bureau
• Coordinate county program with statewide MG program
• Provide MG Help Line training and supervise Help Line activity including log and email for accuracy of information, completeness of documentation and identifying subjects for further training
• Provide periodic progress reports to the academic supervisor for the MG Program and to the Cooperative Extension County Director
Qualifications:
• A four-year college degree with significant course work in environmental horticulture or equivalent education and experience. Successful completion of a Master Gardener training program is preferred.
• Leadership, human relations, teamwork, and motivational skills required.
• Office management skills, including use of basic computer and Internet applications (Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook or equivalent) required.
• Excellent organizational and coordination skills. Experience in management of volunteer organizations highly desirable.
• Excellent problem solving skills and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to work in both office and field/open space environments.
• Ability and means to travel to various sites throughout San Mateo and San Francisco Counties.
