Tips from 4-H Staff Across the State
Note to facilitator: The activity takes15-30 minutes until balloon has expanded fully. May need an activity or discussion in between.
Tip: If you do not have a funnel, youth can add dry material into the balloon directly. Then place the balloon over the bottle to mix.
Materials needed for 1 kit:
* 4 empty and washed 20 oz plastic bottles
* Plastic funnel
* 4, 9" latex balloons
* Spoon
* 6 tablespoons sugar
* Warm tap water
* 4 tablespoons yeast (less expensive in bulk)
* Corn syrup
* Biomass - ground-up leaves or wheat bran
* Scissors & string
